Is weight loss related to stress and sleep? – Ms. Anupama Menon

Cortisol is mainly a stress hormone, which is released by the adrenal gland. The cortisol once released into the blood helps us to decrease stress. But if stress (that is, either physical or mental stress) goes beyond a certain limit, the cortisol hit the roof then there is no fat loss and sleep. Cortisol can be tested through a simple black test at any lab. If you are feeling sleeping too much or stressed too much then consult a doctor and ask him to cortisol test. If the cortisol is really high i.e., the numbers are above 50 then your weight loss and fat loss will be compromised. So in order to reduce your cortisol, first don’t feel stress (both physical and mental), meditate every day for at least 10 minutes, sipping black tea twice a day also helps, chewing gum also helps and the fruits like, beans, barley, legumes and basil leaves (Tulasi).
